Database
The Institute has developed a database on various aspects related to the marginalized communities in India. It must be mentioned here that Dalit Studies in India suffer from a paucity of data and also a centralized database. Therefore, IIDS in its objectives and vision stressed on the development of a detailed database on Dalits in India, which also forms the basis of its research.  IIDS has developed an extensive and a detailed database on various aspects related to social groups at all India and state levels on vital indicators delineating the economic, political, social, educational and related aspects.  The database includes:
 
Economic Indicators
Ownership of capital assets like agricultural land and business etc, occupational patterns, employment and unemployment, wages, income and consumption expenditure, poverty and other related economic indicators.
Social Needs Indicators
These include data on education, literacy, health, housing, water, electricity and other related aspects.
Political Variables
Data on the Members of Parliament from the 5th to the 14th Lok Sabha by social groups, which include data on party, gender, educational qualifications and occupational backgrounds etc.
The Status of Civil and Political Rights
Data on the practice of untouchability, discrimination and atrocities.
