| Contribution on the Issue of Private Sector Reservation |
|
The government is engaged in developing some sort of reservation policy for the private sector in India. IIDS has contributed positively by providing and sensitizing the government, the civil society organizations, the Dalit NGOs, the activists, and the public in general with inputs regarding the issue of reservation for the private sector in India. |

IIDS has published a book titled, ‘Reservation and Private Sector: Quest for Equal Opportunity and Growth’, Edited by Sukhadeo Thorat, Aryama and Prashant Negi, Indian Institute of Dalit Studies and Rawat Publishers, New Delhi and Jaipur, 2005. |

IIDS was invited to a meeting with the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, GoI on Reservation Policy for the Private Sector in India. In the meeting, the Director, Sukhadeo Thorat had a extensive discussion and also presented the Minister a ‘Proposal for Reservation in the Private Sector’, and a copy of the book titled, ‘Reservation and Private Sector: Quest for Equal Opportunity and Growth’, Edited by Sukhadeo Thorat, Aryama and Prashant Negi, Indian Institute of Dalit Studies and Rawat Publishers, New Delhi and Jaipur, 2005. |

In the Conference organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, GoI on ‘Reservation Policy for the Private Sector in India’, Sukhadeo Thorat presented the Key Note Address titled, ‘Reservation in the Private Sector- Why and How’. |

IIDS provided the Joint Secretary and the Research Director, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, GoI with regular feedbacks and inputs regarding the Reservation Policy for the Private Sector in India. |

IIDS organized a Digital Video Conference on the issue of ‘Affirmative Action in USA and India’ with the American Center and the speakers included Professor Sukhadeo Thorat, Director IIDS and Distinguished Professor William A Darity Jr, Professor of Economics and Adjunct Faculty in Sociology, University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill and Director, Institute of African American Research. The Digital Video Conference was attended by important functionaries of the Ministry. |

IIDS organized a national seminar titled, ‘Civil Societies Initiatives on Remedies against Discrimination and Reservation in the Private Sector in India’, in collaboration with National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights; Action Aid, India and Indian Social Institute on 15 July 2004 at the Constitution Club, New Delhi. |
