| The IIDS Internship Programme offers a small group of outstanding graduate and post-graduate level students an opportunity to acquire direct exposure to IIDS’s work. It is primarily suited for those who are interested in the core thematic areas of research being undertaken at the Institute and is willing to compliment their work by a practical exposure at IIDS. |

Description |

The interns will be assigned to the IIDS Head Office or its affiliate Offices in New Delhi. The interns may have a specific, regional, sectoral, or a thematic focus. However, interns will be normally assigned to some aspects of IIDS-supported programmes and projects. Every attempt will be made to conjoin the interests of the intern with the needs of the organization. |

Internship assignments vary in length according to the availability and academic requirements of the interns, as well as the needs of IIDS. Assignments are made available on part-time and full-time basis throughout the year. |

Qualifications |
| |
Candidates for the Internship Programme are selected on a competitive basis. The following minimum qualifications are required: |
| |
- Enrollment in a graduate or post-graduate level degree programme in IIDS thematic areas. Only those students who will return to their studies after the completion of their internship assignments are eligible.
|
- Demonstrated skills in the field of IIDS thematic areas.
|
- Language skills – written and spoken proficiency in English.
|

An interest in the ability to adapt, work as a team and to produce results on short deadlines.

Respect for the principles of IIDS and its Mission Statement.

Financial Aspects |
| |
The IIDS Internship Programme operates on a non-remunerative basis. The costs connected with an intern's participation in the Programme must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or the government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation etc. |

Further Career Opportunities |
| |
The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with IIDS but, as mentioned, to complement an intern's studies. However, a number of interns, having completed their studies and met the necessary requirements, may be absorbed in the IIDS system. |
